Based in Elgin, The McDonald & Munro Speyside Stages was the 2nd round of the KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship with 10 special stages taking place in warm, dry conditions and thick dust hanging around in the more sheltered forest areas.
Euan Thorburn and Paul Beaton took the victory in their Ford Focus WRC 05 after long time leaders David Bogie and John Rowan (Skoda Fabia R5) retired with a broken steering rack at the end of stage 8. Jock Armstrong and Cameron Fair’s Subaru Impreza came home 2nd with Freddie Milne and Aberystwyth’s finest Patrick Walsh completing the podium, their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII losing time with a misfire on the final stage.
Leading two-wheel drive crew were the Isle of Skye’s Duncan MacDonald and his co-driver Neil Ross (my neighbour) in the Camillus Bradley built Ford Escort Mk2 who finished an excellent 13th overall.
