Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally 2019

The final rounds of the Scottish and British Rally Championships took place in the forests around Dalbeattie and New Galloway with David Bogie and John Rowan taking victory in their hired-in McGeehan Motorsport Mini John Cooper Works WRC.

In second place, just over a minute behind, was local hero and event sponsor, Jock Armstrong with co-driver Cameron Fair in the familiar orange Subaru Impreza.

Michael Binnie and Claire Mole (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9) took the final podium spot while 2-wheel drive honours went to the Ford Escort Mk2 of Mark McCulloch and Michael Hendry who just held off the hard-charging Northern Irish crew Shane McGirr and Liam McIntyre in the Toyota Starlet.

Notable retirements included the Isle of Skye’s Duncan MacDonald and Neil Ross who suffered a multiple roll in the Dunharberry stage, the battered Ford Escort Mk2 being quickly loaded onto the evening ferry to Northern Ireland for Camillus Bradley in Magherafelt to assess the damage, and John Wink’s Hyundai i20 R5.

Tom Cave and Dale Bowen dominated the BRC event in their Hyundai i20 R5 with the Ford Fiesta R5 of Jonny Greer and Dai Roberts in second while a measured drive to third sealed the championship for Matt Edwards (for the 2nd year running) and his co-driver Patrick Walsh.
